City of Antwerp launches mobile application
As of today (December 20, 2011), citizens of the city of Antwerp are able to report street garbage with their smartphone. For the city of Antwerp, Kodision developed a web application that makes it possible to report street garbage and request a cleanup. The web application is an extra service for citizens to request a cleanup at the department of public works of the city of Antwerp. The request can include left behind garbage, glass, paper, a full waste container, left behind material after a road construction etc.
The mobile application is fully adapted to the use of the smartphone. For example, geographic information is automatically retrieved with the use of GPS so that the location of the garbage no longer needs to be entered manually. Reports being made with the smartphone are automatically registered in the case handling system of the city of Antwerp. This ensures that 90% of the reported garbage is being picked up within 24 hours after the message has been received.
